Sentences you can use in the school meeting
Eleven sentences that hold a boundary without escalating the room. Copy them, adapt them, read them off your phone.
Meetings go badly for structural reasons, not because you were insufficiently calm. Reading a prepared sentence is not rude. It is a reasonable adjustment for a conversation in which you are outnumbered and tired.
When you need something written down
“Could we add that to the notes, so we all have the same version?”
“I would like to agree what happens if this does not work by the end of the quarter.”
“Who is the named person if it happens again on a Friday?”
When you need to slow the room down
“I want to answer that properly, so I will come back to it in writing.”
“Can we separate what happened from what we do next?”
“I am not disagreeing with you. I am saying the plan assumes something that is not true.”
You are allowed to end a meeting. “We have been going forty minutes and I have stopped taking things in. Can we finish this next week?” is a complete sentence.
